Behind the Mask

Masks.....

Every day I see so many people that seem to be wearing “masks” as if presenting themselves to be perfectly happy and having it all together.

Not only do they seem to be wearing masks, but they all seem to be wearing the same mask, so to speak. It's like a pre-programmed mask; a brainwashing, of some sort. It's as if everyone is just going through the motions of everyday life, without thinking or feeling. No passion; no dreams. They are quite obviously, very unhappy.

When I listen to their laughter, it is like a hollow laughter with no merriment or joy.

I often notice groups of people standing together, nodding their heads up and down during a conversation, wearing empty smiles and emotionless expressions.

This is my perspective.

I want people to see me. I want them to see the real me. I desire to be accepted as myself.

I am not intimidated by true emotions or allowing them to be seen. They are evidence of the fact that I am feeling something. My senses are not numb and dull.

No one walks in a perfect world. You can hide who you are, but you cannot change the essence of who you are. So why try to conceal what you cannot change.

What I really want to do is approach these types of individuals, one by one, and take off their masks, shake them out of there stupor, hug them tightly, and say to them, "You are worth something! You are unique and valuable!!"

Life is much too short for anything else.

 Psalm 139:13-18 (ESV)

13 For you formed my inward parts;
    you knitted me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
   Wonderful are your works;
    my soul knows it very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you,
    when I was being made in secret,
    intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
    in your book were written, every one of them,
    the days that were formed for me,
    when as yet there was none of them.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
    How vast is the sum of them!
18 If I would count them, they are more than the sand.
    I awake, and I am still with you.
